We warmly welcome you to explore our page and find out all there is to know about life in Reception at Tutshill CofE Primary School! We are very much looking forward to working with you and your family, to ensure a successful start to your child’s journey into the wonderful world of education.
At Tutshill School, we provide an inclusive curriculum that is creative, engaging and challenging. In Reception our curriculum is additionally linked to the children’s interests, to engage our pupils and provide them with skills that they need to develop for life-long learning. Our core Christian Values, which we link with British Values and key learning behaviours, underpin everything we do and encourage children to nurture their own spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
When you come into our classroom, you will discover lots of different things to explore! From books, role play, arts and crafts, loose parts, pens and pencils, blocks, small world toys, and an exciting outdoor space for building and being imaginative!
The Seven Key Areas of Learning
We work towards achieving learning outcomes in seven areas of learning and development:
'There are seven areas of learning and development that must shape educational programmes in early years settings. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected’ (The Statutory Early Years Framework)
The Areas are as follows:
Prime Areas
- Communication and Language – Listening, Attention and Understanding/Speaking
- Physical Development – Gross Motor Skills and Fine Motor Skills
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Self Regulation, Managing Self and Building Relationships
Specific Areas
- Literacy – Comprehension, Word Reading and Writing
- Mathematics – Number and Numerical Patterns
- Understanding the World – Past and Present, People, Culture and Communities, The Natural World
- Expressive Arts and Design – Creating with Materials, Being Imaginative and Expressive
The Early Years Foundation Stage seeks to provide:
• Quality and consistency, so that every child makes good progress and no child gets left behind
• A secure foundation enabling the development of each individual child (incorporating assessing and reviewing of learning regularly)
• Partnership between teachers and parents and/or carers
• Equality ~ Ensuring that every child is included and supported
